Toledo Disc Golf – The need for more courses

The actual city of Toledo, Ohio is currently home to just ONE disc golf course. The Ottawa Park Disc Golf Course, which according to the UDisc course page, was installed initially in 1998 and it shows… That’s not to say that the course has just been completely unchanged in the last 26 years. There have been some positive changes here and there. Most notably, an entire house that was originally on the same property, in the middle of the course, was torn down. Trees have died and either been cut down or just plain fell down, as they do anywhere. New tee signs were recently installed by the University of Toledo Disc Golf Club. The actual concrete tees themselves could use a pretty hefty upgrade. Especially the short, or “amateur” tees. All this said… we only have one okay-ish course in the Toledo city limits. It’s time for more.

Toledo is the home to over 260,000 people, with the metropolitan area of Toledo consisting of over 600,000 people. To me, and to ANY disc golfer, it makes perfect sense to find another slice of land within city limits to give us disc golf fiends another place to play. Courses attract people in a good way. Disc golfers drive to the course in vehicles, which as you know use gas (or if you’re really wild, electricity). Gas costs money. There’s a plethora of gas stations in Toledo that would love more traffic. Disc golfers also need to eat (especially between rounds during a tournament). Toledo is home to so many great restaurants. Let us enjoy these establishments! Just over our northern border, in Monroe county, they have 3 courses within a 15 minute drive of each other, but again, Toledo has just one…

Look, I don’t know if anyone of any importance that is a true decision maker for the city will ever come across this blog post. And maybe it’s just the late night ramblings of a tired father of four… but I hope that maybe more blog posts, more videos, more TikToks, and more concerned letters written to the city MIGHT just get us a new course.

We can only hope…
